Hull, I think it's time you and I should break up...

So, in the time it took me to write that last blog, some little bastard managed to steal my phone from right under my nose. I'm beginning to dislike Hull more and more. And it's scary that I could be that unobservant. I mean the phone was on my lap for crying out loud. It must have fallen off, but...well. It's just scary. It was damn lucky I'd backed up CQ on my external hard drive the previous evening, otherwise the most recent version would have been on my phone. So, if you see anything by the name of 'Cosmic Questions' being printed anywhere under some other person's name, that's the culprit. (As if that's what they're really after...)

So, watch your backs, kids. People are mean.

On the plus side, I have a job. It's a Receptionist placement for 13 weeks starting in January. They let me know within about four hours of the interview. Finally my stint as an unemployed Hull resident has ended. Hurrah!

Quick word count update: 50,200 ish, so I've hit my minimum.

*Editor's Note: I just realised I called up this post into edit mode again purely to delete one single exclamation mark. My intolerance is higher than I first thought...*

  1. Hi Nari,
Sorry to hear about your phone. The problem is that phone's today are so good that they are very attractive to the opportunist thief, or as you quite rightly say 'little bastards!'
Great news though about your new job and your word count, 50000, wow. I thought I was doing well on 2000.
Thanks for your reply to my post. Maybe the waterproof notepad could be the next big thing on Dragon's Den!

  2. Ha - I'd LOVE to see how that would work :P It'll be the next Ipad or something...
Thanks, yeah I surprised myself. Considering that when I was working on this project for Uni, I had 14,000, and that was actually not that long ago.
I noticed as I was coming out from the Library (where my phone was nicked) in a bit of a dumbfounded stupor, that Hull Central Library appears to run a 'Writer's Circle'. I didn't write down information, I'm afraid, as I was trying to work out what on Earth to doo. But it's definitely something to look into.

  4. Ah great news about your job,Congratulations!Shame about the phone and you have my sympathy for that. We spent a week in Cyprus in Oct 2009 and while we slept a couple of scumbags got into the villa and stole my husband's laptop, his iphone, wallet, passport and ipod, my friend's iphone and ipod and passport and er my sunglasses (2 pairs) both had prescription lenses but both were designer type. I had taken my own iphone, passport and handbag up to bed with me as I always do, even at home.M&S travel insurance turned out to be pretty useless as well so we got about a third of the value back in the end.A memorable holiday indeed... Word count: 50,000+ is excellent :-) Oh and I loved 'The Book Thief' I see you are reading it.Enjoy and Happy Christmas!

  5. Sorry to hear about your phone - nothing is sacred anymore. Kharma though shall prevail! They do bad things and bad things will eventually happen them!

Well done on the word count.

  6. Phones being stolen may be a nuisance, but at leas you were not hurt as a result. Still, that was one ballsy little scumbag to pinch your phone whilst you were so close to it.

But congratulations on both your word count and your new job - what a lovely and positive start to your year that will be! You must have impresses them a lot xx

  8. Thanks everyone, yeah I'm very chuffed with the placement and the word count. I'm starting to regret it, but I made a deal with Rob (other half) that whatever state my manuscript is in on the 30th December, I'm passing it to him to read. Hopefully it'll be inscentive...
The phone thing could have been a lot worse, so I am grateful it wasn't. God bless Orange Care - new phone to be delivered TONIGHT! How's that for speed?

  9. Deb, that really sucks, I'm so sorry to hear that. When on holiday as well. It's really quite shocking the things that people do sometimes.
I guess if nothing else, it's a lesson in life to be stupidly careful.

  11. Not sure if "...phone's today are so good..." Adam!

I mean phones are for well, phoning some one and to speak to that person.

For word processing, playing videos, playing games etc, a different instrument, may be an IPad or some thing similar should be used.

I would prefer my tooth brush to do not much more than brush my teeth and if I need a hair brush, I will go and get a hair brush!

Glad to have come across your blog Nari.

    All the best.

  12. Like everybody else I sympathise with the loss of the 'phone Nari, but putting a positive spin on it... it wasn't taken in a vicious personal attack... which does happen.
On the job front, CONGRATULATIONS my friend. I spent 23 years in the army, then it took four months of serious effort to gain a retail 'placement'. I have no need to tell you how much I impressed those guys... and I was then 40.
I'm still in retail management, but it doesn't matter which field you go into, there are a lot of applicants. You did extremely well! Enjoy.

  13. Thanks for the congratulations :) I'm getting very nervous now, but it will be great. Blimey, it's taken me long enough to find one. But, I well know, living in Hull, how many people have spent years, not months looking for a job. So I count myself lucky.
